Referee summer camp season is just about over. Covid took us all away from on-court camps and development last summer. One reminder for me was to be a sponge. Know your role as a listener. Be last to speak and ask questions. Remember you don’t know everything. If you did, why are you at camp? Safe travels.
Camp should always be about working on your craft. Building relationships is part of that craft. Don’t just focus on the visual skills. Look at how you communicate with other referees, coaches, players, and supervisors. Relationships matter. Here’s an example: Players become assistant coaches, and assistant coaches become head coaches. Head coaches become Supervisors of Officials. This doesn’t mean that
Yo spent $1600 on camps this summer. In the middle of a pandemic. Now what? What happens next? More now than every you need to focus your training.
What are your expectations when you go to camp. Am I attending camp to train or to be hired? Write your goals and expectations down. Get ideas from fellow officials on what those expectations should look like. Have a plan.
