A ‘NEGATIVE’ result never felt so good.

Before I enter the Wubble, I had to be tested for COVID19. My wife and I have done a great job of quarantining the entire time COVID beat up the country. We only stepped outside when we needed too. It was either for food or for exercise. We washed our hands religiously even if we stayed indoors. We kept our hands out of our faces and we wore a mask as required. We only took them off in the confines of our home or in the car while driving. We disinfected everything that entered our home. We undressed and washed our closes when we returned from outside. We embraced this new life. We were all in!

Unfortunately, whenever we ventured outside, people would walk right up to you without a mask and I would have to politely say, “I’m not trying to offend you, but please maintain six feet.”. My wife and I learned to be patient and get out of the way of those who ignorantly refused to wear a mask or didn’t honor the social distancing guidelines. I was slowly learning creative ways to demonstrate and explain selflessness in a two minute window at the grocery line.

On several occasions my wife and I also joined in protest with our local social justice groups in response to the death of George Floyd and other unarmed black men who have died in the hands of police. We were extremely cautious when traveling in these huge crowds and most of the protestors wore masks and were respectful of space. We also traveled with an arsenal of hand sanitizer. A few times I found myself with the hand up stop sign when someone was getting too close.

So, when I was required to take my first test, I was nervous about the one time I forgot to wash my hands and I transferred the virus to my face after someone with COVID touched the handrail. I might be paranoid, but I just heard of too many horror stories from friend and family members.  You just don’t know.

You know that dance you rehearsed in your brain when you dream of winning the lottery? That’s what I did when I saw…NEGATIVE on my test results. For me, that was a little confirmation that it was good to take the next step to enter the Wubble.
